Sean Sullivan and Jeff Feld
Pas de deux
September 11 - October 16, 2021
Chris Sharp is pleased to present a two-person exhibition of Queens-based artist Jeff Feld and Upstate New York-based artist Sean Sullivan.
The work of Jeff Feld and Sean Sullivan shares a similar proclivity for the idiosyncratic. Whether it be in drawing, collage or sculpture, materials, colors and forms tend to lead the decision making process, which often leads to surprising results. Jeff Feld is a sculptor whose work is marked by an interest in materials, formal invention and a dry, absurdist sense of humor, while Sean Sullivan’s works on paper, which exist somewhere between painting, drawing, monoprint, and, say, writing, not to mention classical (indexical) photography, marvelously resist classification.
For the exhibition at Chris Sharp Gallery, Jeff Feld will present a single, multifaceted sculpture, whose recursive, ovular shapes fashioned out of cardboard reflect the repetitive quality of Sean Sullivan’s oil transfer paintings on found paper. Spirited forms meet exuberant color in an elegant pas de deux.
